Peak paint
 

Can anyone tell me what shade of blue the Peaks were painted in their last years of service:cool:

I think that rail blue was rail blue to be honest, but I think that it was a bit darker later on with more yellow on the ends like many locos had.
Why not ask a preservation group for more info to go a bit better than my pathetic attempt!:D

Hi steam for ever I was hoping a preservation group would see my post .they had a 45 at the lamport railway in northampton but they moved it due to vandalls ripping out the wiring dont know where it went .Will checkout others

Well I know of the bury diesel group for one.
They have quite a few locos there and a 45 I think is one of them, or has been in the past.

Hi Garrat, personally I think it all depended whether or not it had been varnished. That tends to make most colours look a shade or two darker.

hi 62440 thanks for that link just been to model show in peterboro and looked at the paints there for sale .I live near the midland line to st pancras and the blues they had were not what i remember as I saw and photographed most of them. I will try your link later Much obliged Garrat

I am pretty certain that all "Peaks" (44,45,46) received standard Rail Blue livery. However by the end of their working lives weathering would have made them appear much lighter than when first painted. Many photographic films also tend to lighten the shade of Rail Blue which makes accurate colour matching even more difficult.
I think model paints generally try to replicate the ex-works version of a particular colour.

Yes I agree ,will have to go for one in the middle which I think will be ok at my age my eyes are probably deceiving me also.I am at present getting to gether an o gauge lay out and tho it will be mostly steam I cant ignore these peaks as they were most prominent on the midland here.
