Commuters on a busy railway line into Manchester cannot get on some peak-time trains because of overcrowding.

I dont understand the statement about the redundant trains not being re-deployed. Surely they are better off being used, the demand is obviously there !

Yes, that's entirely logical but I am afraid that there isn't that much about today's railways that involve logic. Neither do they seem to be run for the benefit of the passengers (sorry, customers).
