Noise complaints over train horns (BBC News)
 

Residents in east Kent complain about loud train horns but Southeastern says they are used for safety reasons.

So what do people want us to do stop and shout,

'GET OUT OF THE WAY'

I don't think so, If I don't sound the train warning and I kill someone I end up in court on manslaughter charges, I do sound the horn and I get a complaint about noise,

Once again we're damned if we do and damned if we don't:mad: :confused:

IMO people should put up with the noise during the day, but drivers should be more considerate during the night.

How many of the complainants were living there before the railway, and I recall hearing train whistles/horns in my young days way back in the 1940,s
It's the old,old story let's complain about something ah what shall we look at now.

As a driver I agree, but my last comment on this thread still stands,

The rule on whistles is now.

Between the hours of 23.00 and 07.00 whistles must not be used at whistle boards or crossings except in an emergency.

We MUST still whistle if we se anybody on or near the line, i.e track workers on a night time possession.

During the hours of darkness, when a whistle board is, you know, probably more useful at a crossing, you can't use it?

I agree with LesG, I work on the track as a Track Quality Supervisor working both days an night shifts an if i'm right behind a tamper or other on track machine then occaisionly even at night when single line working is in place some drivers still do not sound the horn. they just take it that i've seen them but the site wardens arn't so shy they'll sound the siren an let it whale for minutes at a time so for the safety of the public an track staff i say sound the horn at what ever time at all whistle boards,crossings an tunnels. The railway was there before the complainers an it'll be there long after so for safety keep BLOWING YER HORN....!!!!!!!.
