Network Rail - Biggest Wasters Of Money On The Railway

Please discuss the above comment! or any other examples you may have!

There are no signs of NWR being "joined up" or an integrated company in anyway!

Track renewals work is to take place on the electrified line between Chester and Hooton in August, this encompasses Mollington Viaduct.

It was rumoured, since found to be true, that this viaduct was to have it's deck re-waterproofed in a couple of years but no managers/engineers seemed to put two and two together and thought of doing the work togther to save money or disruption to service.

The work being done will involve removal of sleepers and rail, excavation of spent ballast (to a specified depth) and replacement with new ballast, sleeper and rail.

When the deck is re-waterproof this work will be repeated, albeit with ballast excavated to the deck level but first requiring sleepers and rail removing.

This has been pointed out to NWR but scheme/site managers say "I don't want this to come out of my budget, get the someone else to do it".

Pathetic - too many middle managers, no integration and another waste of money!!!!!

This has always been the way from the days of British Rail. The TOC's have sorted out the cheapest way to do things and the best way to increase fares so it's a loose, loose situation throughout
