Memory playing tricks?

Hello. I'm a brand new member.

It's often struck me that my memory might be playing tricks on me. I'd be grateful if someone could confirm my thoughts. In the early 1960s whenever I spent summer holidays with my grandparents in Chester le Street and often visited 52A. As I recall, the unofficial entry to the shed was via a gap in a wall alongside a road overlooking the shed, a scramble down a grass bank, in between sidings with condemned locos and then, horror of horrors! You could cross the main line to access the shed yard. Very foolish, highly dangerous and the shed foreman didn't take too kindly to it either!

My question is do others remember this as a way to access the shed or have I dreamt it all?

Thanks

Paul

hello paul.i do not know the access to 52A.
but if it was anything like the access to 65B(ST ROLLOX),
(YOUR SANITY IS INTACT!).at st rollox the indians would
come off there, (RESERVATION!) over the embankments,
through holes in the fence/walls to get coal ,or any other thing that could be of use to them,(OR THERE GRANNY!).
in those days access to sheds was very very easy.

Welcome to the Forum Paul,

Don't know about 52A but sounds highly believable!

hello again paul.if you read a small story i made a post of, (think before you do)in derailed ,it will give you an idea how easy it was, for the public to gain access to railway/yards/sheds/main line in the 60s.

It was also relatively easy to get line side passes. In the mid 60's I had a line side pass for the whole of the Settle-Carlise and the West Coast Mainline from Crewe to Carlisle!

Best wishes,

Hello Paul and welcome to the forum, enjoy and all the best.

P.S. I used to go to my local shed 24D and on almost all visits got my backside kicked every time but it never did stop us.
