Question about Current Italian Passenger Trains

I have a question about certain passenger trains that run between Venice and Rome (Italy). I am specifically interested in Trenitalia's Eurostar, the Eurostar Fast and the Eurostar Italia Alta Velocita. The schedule indicates that all these train types take 4hour 27 minutes to run between Venice and Rome. They all appear to use the ETR 500; so what is the difference between them? I thought the latter was a high-speed train? Any Trenitalia experts out there?

Hello and welcome to the forum. For some strange reason I think you will find that the Venice-Rome 4hr 27mins services that continue on to Naples are known as "Eurostar Italia Alta Velocita" whilst those which terminate in Rome are simply known as Eurostar Italia. The only Eurostar Fast services I could find between Venice and Rome took 3hr 59mins which I believe is attained by cutting out some of the stops.
I think Trenitalia are masters of complication and always find their website an absolute nightmare. If you plan your journey using the SBB website ALL Venice-Rome services are simply referred to as Eurostar Italia :)

Thank you to John and John

Thank you both for the reply. Please excuse my ignorance. What is the "SBB" website?

Sorry, I should have elaborated. SBB (Schweizerische Bundesbahnen) is the German language name for Swiss Federal Railways. The French and Italian language versions being CFF (Chemins de Fer Fédéraux) and FFS (Ferrovie Federali Svizzere)
Effectively it is the Swiss equivalent of Trenitalia or the old FS.
The SBB website URL is http://www.sbb.ch/ and your chosen language can be selected at the top of the page.

Hello Europe10 and welcome to the Railway Forum. When it comes to railways in Europe, I always let John Swisstrain answer as my knowledge of their systems would not fill the back of a average postage stamp.

Thank you for the great website

Wow! Now that is a great website. Trenitalia should follow their lead. Very straight forward and non-confusing.

Two more questions if I may...

I have two more questions about the Eurostar Italia passenger trains that run between Venice and Rome. (1) Has anyone ever seen a seat diagram for the First Class cars on these trains? (Trenitalia has none.)
(2) Has anyone seen a good floor plan for the Roma Termini and the Venezia Santa Lucia train stations? (The official Trenitalia ones are poor.) Thank you to all who could help.

Need an Italian Train Expert

Just found out about Roma Termini on the "Railway Station" Forum. Thanks to Mr. "swisstrains" ! Are there any ITALIAN TRAIN experts out there who can help me with the last question about the seat diagram for the First Class cars on the ES trains? (Trenitalia has none.)
