Hello from a new starter

Hello everyone
My name is Stu (as if it wasn't obvious) and my main intrest is Aviation Photography but a trip by train to Manchester Airport yesterday kind of gave me a intrest away from planes. I never realised how colourful and varied many trains are. So if there is anyone here in the Manchester area who can point me in the right direction of some good locations to capture trains, then I would be grateful.

Hello Stu and welcome to the forum, which trains are you looking to photograph steam, diesel or electric ? or all three.

Stu 26th April 2009 08:14

All three if i can? And would prefer to capture trains away from stations and capture them in the countryside.

Hello and welcome to the forum Stu. If you're after steam, the best place in the Manchester area would probably be the East Lancs Railway, based in Bury. Have a look at the link below for more information.

The East Lancashire Railway in Bury.

If you've never been, then you're in for a treat. It's a whole new world.

My other favourite spot is Wigan North Western, as it's on the WCML and all kinds of things will roll through if you have an hour or two on a Monday afternoon.

Hello Stu welcome to the forum

Thanks guys for the feedback and for welcoming me to the forum.
I was at the ELR last year with my kids and it was a good day. And at the time i was thinking about the best spots along the line to grab some shots.
And to 'Deathbyteacup' i live in Atherton which isn't a million miles away from Wigan. But do you get a platform ticket or do you go to another location as I might pop down soon.

Hello Stu welcome to the Railway Forum. Living in the southwest, I can't help with your question.

Hi Stu. I live in the South East, so can't really help with the question either. Welcome to the forum anyway!

Tony
