Joy Riding in Rotheram

Yesterday a 15 year old enthusiast got community service for starting up and driving a diesel shunter (I think it was a class 08 but I'm not good with diesels) around a yard on a quiet Sunday morning. He must have been good at it as well, because no one thought that there was anything suspicous until they noticed he wasn't wearing a uniform.

The tale i heard i am not sure if the facts are right or wrong,But it was ment to be a 19 year old steel worker that was intersted in all things mechanical.
And he drove round for 40 minnute trip around Tinsley Depot, then parked the loco, turned it off and rode off on his bike
Cheaper than a driver trainig day on any preserved railway.
All the best,Ian

I'll wager he rode in that cab with a driver at some time. too good at it to be a beginer. easy to start and move one but stopping is the clever bit, and apparently he did'nt hit anything with it. parked it and shut it down too.
