Can someone tell me more about 'Anglia'?
 

I've got a hornby class 86 in Anglia livery (you can find out more about the loco in the model railways forum) and i would like to know more about Anglia and their trains because it would be nice to know more about what my model would be doing in the real world. I know that they took over services on the great eastern network after privatisation and they got taken over by 'ONE', but I don't know much more than that because I didn't do trainspotting then.

Could someone give me a bit of an overview as well as information on how their trains were formed. I know that they had a fleet of class 86s and mk 2 coaches, but did they have any other locomotives for their mainline services, and how did the locomotives work? did they have them in pushpull with DVTs? or did they have some other method of getting their trains out of the terminuses?

It probably won't change the way I run my layout at all, but I'm curious to know more about it.

anglia railways was owned by GB railways,which between 5th january 1997 and 31st 2004 operated mainline trains out of london liverpool street and a number of local rail services in east anglia,it also run services outside the terrtory it owned during the franchise and this was branded'london crosslink',and ran the great eastern mainline via the north london line to basingstoke,this service ran from 30th may 2000 to 28th september 2002.
on 1st of april 2004 the franchise was lost to company 'London Eastern Railway' which is part of national express group,its services was initially branded 'ONE' but have now been rebranded as national express east anglia.

The 47s weren't part of Anglia's fleet, they were on hire from Cotswold rail during the summer for services that went beyond the electrified mainline, only one, 47714, received Anglia livery.

Anglia's London trains were formed of a Class 86 electric loco, usually at the London end, then first class Mk2 coaches, a buffet car, standard Mk2 coaches and a MK2 DBSO (Driving Brake Standard Open) usually at the 'Country' end. They worked in push-pull mode. I can't remember the exact number of first and standard coaches, but there were ten vehicles (including the locomotive) in the train. The buffet car was usually a Mk3 vehicle, with first class accomodation, but there was a Mk1 restaurant car in use aswell (IIRC, the last on the mainline, I don't believe it ever received Anglia livery).

They have also used Class 90 locomotives on the London trains from time to time to cover for unavailable Class 86s. Although the exact locomotives varied, 90016, 90036 (both EWS machines) and 90049 (Freightliner) have definately been used.
