Virgin Trains will NOT compete with regional service

I knew about this already, but it suggests 1 of 2 things.

1. Virgin didn't do their market research in Nuneaton

2. They were afraid that the price for being allowed to compete with WSMR from Telford / Shrewsbury would be to allow WSMR to pick up in the West Midlands !

Also, if the proposed Virgin services were on viable paths, then maybe WSMR could run the service instead ! It would probably be quicker than their existing route ...

Whatever the reason, it's got to be a good thing. Outfits like WSMR need encouragement - not being driven out by the big boys. If we have to have a privatised railway, then we must at all costs avoid it being in the hands of just two or three big TOC's.
