Last year at Souithwold a snubbing post and some iodd lengths of rather rusty rail could still be seen at the edge of the water. There were also still some sleepers to be seen in the mud as well. At the other end of what was the line the old moving platform still exists at the interchange with the standard gauge line. The piers for the old river bridge can be seen from the footbridge so there are a few relics still in existance. Not the best of places to drive through in the summer though as it gets crowded.

I don't know how many of you have been to Southwold but its one of the most beautiful towns on the east coast. A genteel seaside town that hasn't been spoiled by bright lights, amusements, funfairs etc. Its very affluent and would be a super place to rebuild the original railway. I haven't seen the detailed plans on this but it reads more like a steam park than a proposal to rebuild the original line across to the main line to Norwich ?

Has anyone got a link to what their plans are ?

Sadly Pesmo the genteel folk of Southwold blocked plans to rebuild the whole line (NIMBYs). This steam park is the most they would accept!

Best wishes,

John H-T.
