Insane Tornado spotters today on the ECML

Went down to Holme between Peterborough and Huntingdon. Most folks stayed on the correct side of the fence, but some idiots decided to stand on the opposite side, trackside, not even with hi vis gear not that that make s difference one guy feet off the down line with his back to it!
After an EMU blasted them and they still didn't move, the next down was a GC 125 which crawled up and stopped and b!! them. Next up train also stopped and told anotherr group in the same location to get off the trackside
This resulted in a backlog of trains all being stopped and crawling through until a NWR guy arrived an verified all was clear
This delayed Tornado which was now running at under 50mph on cautions behind the backlog
Thanks guys, you have probably put Mainline steam, back 40 years and cost £1000s in delay charges which will make NWR reluctant to allow steam even more

Quite agree with both comments! It is getting increasingly harder for steam to get paths, doesn`t need clowns on the line as well.

I have no idea if they were just locals or photographers but here was also a group with cameras further along the down line Wonder if this sceanario happened elsewhere, i cannot believe this was a one off. Shades of 4472 in the early 80s on this line

There are words for people like that but unfortunately I can't express them here. Fair enough slipping through the fence to see through bushes when there is a large distance 20ft + between you and the track but standing there is just plain stupid. I know that being that close to the track isn't safe under a 30mph restriction. Good on Grand Central : good Northern common sense!

A good way to get steam taken off the mainline. 100% prize winning w**kers.

It is shocking to think that said offenders could be rail enthusiasts.

Would this be a deterrent -

Yes increased to match today's values and add any expenses or charges incurred by their causing delay in the services.

It would run into £1000s just for wasted fuel, brake wear plus the NWR engineers time before anything else.
