Weymouth Tramway

On the SW local news today, that 'although disused sine late 80's to regular traffic, local council want to tarmac over the tramway to the Quay'.Local people seemed split on whether it can be reused in the future or removed.
Wonder if the anti rail lobby will get their way, sadly i think they will, and then que the 'wish we kept it' brigade:mad:

My view is that it is not dead 'YET'. Information is key to understanding the decision process and what Network Rail can and can't do, and what powers the council have.
Here for starters is a link to the Council's discussion document

and the ORR

Some good video of the branch in it's last years with specials
Something rather continental about a train running down a street!
shame if it goes for ever although i suppose in todays H and S culture it wont be a surprise

We went to Guernsey from Weymouth back on 1981,
Sadly the train journey is now but a faint memory but we must have returned to London by rail after the holiday in the opposite direction through the town. Would we have had one of those Southern electric cum diesels on the front? Again memory has failed although I can remember steam at Yarmouth and Lowestoft along the roads which must have been around 1960 or maybe a little earlier.
Maybe before senility really strikes home I'll remrember some of those old times.

John, here's one of the Weymouth-Waterloo boat trains taken in 1983. The loco is a Class 33 diesel.

Most councils do just as they like. The tramway will probably get tarmaced over.
