South West Trains cuts 480 jobs (BBC News)
 
A train company is to cut 480 jobs, blaming reduced passenger growth and the "challenging" economic climate.

Very strange,because in recent years there has been an increase in passengers.I have travelled on these trains and they have been well populated.They are not reducing front line operating staff. A lot of these companies are using the credit crunch to slim down staffing levels.
They have also put up fares,total madness when rail passenger traffic is on the up.I have noticed a decrease in passengers on FGW HST's in recent months.
