Wrexham & Shropshire

Used this service to visit London for the day from Tame Bridge Parkway. Reasonably impressed, but expected the carriages to be in better shape than their advertising suggests. They were just old WCML Mk3 carriages with the same seats and tables. Refurbishment must be delayed.

Crawled through New Street on the southbound journey and routed round the Walsall line past the Villa ground on the way back.

A very easy task for a class 67 diesel - 3 coaches and a DVT, lots of speed restrictions though.

Apparently the refurbished coaches will be in use within the net few months. So far they have done pretty well and I hope they keep getting better.

The W&S Class 67, and the DVT at Marylebone, just after arrival. This set did 2 journeys that day. It was the day that Euston was closed due to overhead cabling failures.

Are some of the speed restrictions caused by the fact that it is a loco-hauled train and not a DMU?

The Class 57 hauled Arriva Trains Wales service from Holyhead-Cardiff is subject to more severe speed restrictions than the normal DMU's operating on this route.

Yes, the restrictions are down to the axle loadings apparently. When the Chiltern Line was reopened it was only passed for their standard DMUs. Class 67s are subject to restrictions because of their weight and power.

As a result they have to pass slowly through places like Princes Risborough. W&S hope to have the line upgraded at some point.
