Can't wait. It is a route I never travel so look forward to 2013.
Best wishes, John H-T. |
The more lines reopened the Better.

Hopefully in the future they will extend the line back to Hawick which is one of Britains largest towns without a railway station.

I admit it's not far off being the largest town in Scotland without a railway station, though I would think Kirkintilloch, St Andrews, Peterhead and Grangemouth are all larger. but in England there are some much bigger places without a railway station. Even if we don't count dudley (since Dudley Port is only a mile away). Just off the top of my head I can think of Leigh, Ripon, Washington, Peterlee, Ilkeston, Swadlincote, Abingdon and Newport (IOW). |
Midland compound, good point about Scotland, although I am using a slightly wider definition of large than maybe you are . From something I read in a local government study a couple of years ago there is reckoned to be about 80-100 towns large enough to support a rail line that don't have one. Hawick was certainly on that list.
Hopefully though in due course they will extend to Hawick. |
I think the point about Hawick is that, while by no means being the only town without a station, it holds the distinction of being the *furthest* from a station. Unless I have it wrong... wouldn't be the first time!

1. you may be right about Hawick being "furthest" from a station, though will change if/when the line reaches Galashiels. [ What would be the furthest then ? Peterhead ? I assume Lerwick doesn't count !]
2. actually I think Gosport is larger than any of the ones I posted for England. All the best Martin |
