Ivybridge Devon

South Devon MP Gary Streeter officially launched the new High Speed Train services from Ivybridge station on Friday, December 19.

It is the first time distance High Speed Trains have stopped at Ivybridge and is one of the alterations in First Great Western's new December Timetable, which brings a range of positive changes for Devon and Cornwall.

First Great Western Regional Manager for the West of England, Julian Crow, said: “We are really pleased to be able to offer long distance High Speed Train services at Ivybridge for the first time. This is great news for local customers who can now make long distance journeys without having to change first at Plymouth or Newton Abbot.

This change is made possible by First Great western's investment in Selective Door Opening, which allows us to stop our High Speed Trains at stations like Ivybridge, which have shorter platforms. The train manager can now select which doors to open when the train is longer than the platform, allowing customers to get on and off the train safely.

That's a good idea.

Can anybody tell me why HSTs have been able to call at Stonehouse station for many years, when this has a very short platform?

Grandfather rights, presumably.

i.e. they were already stopping there before the HSE (or whoever) brought in the current rules.
