Hi all

My name is Daniel. I live next a prety unique railway (the Stony Point Line in Victoria).

I am currently studying computer systems enginerring at Uni.

I have alwas found British locos to be amongst the best looking in the world (actualy top of my list a nose ahead of the V.R. s class streamliner)

The Stony Point Line Runs From Frankston (54Km south of Melbourne) further South to Stony Point.

The line is electrified form Melbourne to Frankston then passengers change trains at Frankston for the Diesel hauled service shown in my first post. the service runs 6 times a day in both directions with the exception of friday when 7 trains are run. the round trip takes 2 hours using an A class (built in the early 60's) and 2-3 converted ex-suburban electric carriages.

also wedged in between are 2 Steel freight trains a day. the line is only stafed be the train crew and staff at Frankston Station. (this the only suburban line (without country extensions) to be Diesel hauled fully in Victoria.

Hope this helps under stand what I mean about unique.

Nice photo and your local line sounds pretty interesting. But what's a 'Steal' freight train?

I should have described this beter:o the Steel train runs 2 return trips a day (one in daylight and one at night) these consist of 1-3 diesels hauling either shiping containers or open wagons (sometimes both) with steel slabs to be roled into coiled steel sheeting at the steel works 3/4 along the line towards Stony Point at a place called Hastings. (it is run by Blue Scope Steel which is owned by BHP Biliton) these trains are hence referied to as steel trains or "steelies".

Hi Daniel,
I tried to find Frankston and Stony Point on Google Earth but with no luck, so I went on to have a look at Melbourne. There is quite a network of rail around the city. I also found 2 large stations or 1 station and a workshop? Some of the trains have come up very well on the sat view. I will have to get a better map of the area to trace the line.

The track is single line the entire legth and google earth has not bothered to take clear photo's of the area.
