Boats hit by problems at bridges (BBC News)
Network Rail is criticised on the condition of bridges that carry trains over the Norfolk and Suffolk Broads.

I bet that the bridges would soon be repaired if they were stuck in the open to waterway position. Network rail would throw everything into getting them open to rail traffic. I think they should be fined if they don't get the work done soon. That just IMO.

It looks like yet more problems caused by an ageing infrastructure. I can sympathise with the boaters but Network Rail don't have unlimited funds and have to prioritise.

The boats were there first, by several hundred years. Network Rail have to work with the infrastructure they've got, not the one they'd like to have. If they want to close the navigation, they should apply to do so, which would involve a debate in the Commons, and the balancing of the cost of the railway infrastructure against the damage to the Norfolk Broads tourist industry.
