Sorry, but Nobody orders passengers on to already crowded trains. We all get on by choice. While people are prepared to put up with it, then Nothing will be done about the situation.

I agree with you Bramleyman, that is the problem with us in this country, we put up with it. We have had generations of being told to keep a stiff upper lip and be British. What utter crap. We do ourselves a disservice by not doing what the French or any other "Johnnie Foreigner" would do and complain and complain and complain. When that does'nt work we should complain even more.

Would a logical answer be to adopt pre set numbers per carriage like buses do. ie 78 seated 20 standing. Then when they are full doors should be closed. This would maintain comfort and ensure reasonable safety should there be an accident. Who would be responsible in the event of an accident fo operating overloaded trains?:confused: . Plus on a lesser point I argue having paid for a ticket you deserve a seat on anything other than short commutes.:(

I know of very few bus drivers who obey the seated / standing rules, though you do get some who follow the rules strictly, I imagine the railways would suffer the same problem.

Airlines seem to manage.....:)
