I really am behind on current rail network news. The number of lines closed and then reopened,it just shows you how rail travel has come to the front in the last few years.
I am old enough to remember travelling over the "Waverley Route" in the 50s and I can recall some of the station names such as er...... :( Melrose,Hawick,Selkirk as well as Galashiels. There was a train called the "Thames-Forth Express",not as well known as "The Thames-Clyde Express" that ran from St.Pancras to Edinburgh via the Midland line to Sheffield,Leeds, the S and C,Carlisle and then over the Waverley Route.God knows how long it took, can't remember:confused: .
Who knows the line could be extended back to Carlisle in the future.
