Heard today that the Midland Railway Centre at Butterley have also been hit by cable thefts several times over the last week. Reduced to single train running last weekend because of points failures.

You know, several years ago I caught a young lad cutting through signal cables one night.....

I told him what a stupid prat he was an' all that, what would happen if he was caught, and the danger that he was putting others in..

and given the size of signal cable......What was he going to get for it anyway?....

I told him to bugger off..and hey! take your tools with you you silly sod!

I hope he learned the lesson.....I really do.

In Europe, the railways are unguarded by fences etc.......yet this behaviour doesn't exist..........what the hell is wrong with our society that makes kids here think that they need to do this?
