Extra trains allocation

http://www.dft.gov.uk/pgr/rail/pi/ro...n?page=2#a1003

Some interesting points:
* Transpennine Express should get 42 new trains.
* Northern's Rail could get new electric trains with the old ones going to London Midland. At the same time London Midland could get new diesel trains with some of the old ones going to Northern Rail.
* Some Northern Rail diesel units could go to East Midlands Trains, despite Northern recently getting some centre coaches from EMT 158s.
* Northern Rail will be required to replace some trains with new ones, which wasn't originally in the terms of their franchise.
* National Express East Coast won't get any extra carriages.
(*Merseyrail aren't included because the frnachise is issued by Merseytravel not Dft.)

The table you found indicates 1300 additional vehickes by 2014.
I know I am being fussy, but would there be other vehicles built to replace worn out units?

i.e. is this really 1300 extra units, or is it (say) 300 extra units plus 1000 Replacements for those that would have needed renewing anyway?

(lies, damn lies and statistics........)

Well I think the figures may be distored. I know TP Express urgently an extra centre carriage for all of their 60 trains. So it may be that they will get 60 centre carriages and 4 extra trains, rather than 24 new trains.
