A disused railway line in the Wye Valley could become a traffic-free route for walkers and cyclists.

Good idea it would keep the route clear and who knows maybe one day trains could run there again.

personally i think the old track beds should be used for something. Not every
stretch of disused track can be reopened as a steam railway. My main gripe about sustrans is its claim to promote sustainable transport(cycling and walking) when virtually all its schemes are nowhere near where people travel in large numbers for any reason other than pleasure.

Last year and despite all the work going on in trying to get the Wisbech & March Bramley Line opened up, one stupid Joker suggested concreting it over as a cycle way. IF you see a cyclist between the two towns on this route, you are extremely lucky. Most cyclists refuse to cycle because of the condition of the local roads, then the sheer Maniacs that race their cars in full knowledge the police rarely patrol.

We ARE going to run trains on there.

In Bristol the onl Midland Railway track from Bristol to Bath and Bristol to Chipping Sodbury are both used as a foot/cycle path and both are very well used every day, not just at weekends. Around Bitten, we have the Avon Valley Railway whichalso uses the old track. The two run side by side very well.

Hi Syd Good idea so you have a cycle path and trains side by side, trains may never run on the Wye Valley line but there's always the option.

It is good to see that Sustrans can coexist with Heritage Railways. Hope that the same will hapen at Bodmin as they push towards Wadebridge!

Just so long as they don't turn them into BUS routes!!!!! Like there are doing at Leigh (Mchr)

Cambridge to St Ives track now gone and rapidly being replaced by concrete ribbons for guided bus and then they talk about an East /West freight line.

Our local council and bus Co. (First) tried to change our cycle/foot path into a rapid bus route. They got such a flea in the ear from all the local people and a number of people who visit that they did a quick turn around. The bus lanes in Bristol already cause twice as much congestion than there was before they were put in. The service is very expensive and poor. Until they sort the buses out with prices that are affordable they will never get the cars off the roads. But they are not having our cycle/foot path.
