High speed summer rail services (BBC News)
 
CrossCountry Trains is to offer a high speed summer service from Manchester and Newcastle to Newquay.

Is the 'surfboard carrying train' goign to be CC's marketing strategy? ;) Wouldn;t that be a laugh if there were a load of passengers at Piccadilly at 6 in the morning waiting for the Newquay train to allow for boarding, and all waiting on the platform each with a surfboard :D . You sit down and for the next 10 minutes before departure loads of passengers make their way down the coach making sure they don't hit anyone as they carry their surfboard.

Hope these trains are not running to catch the south coastal tidal times, as given the normal cancellatios and hold ups on most crosscountry services these days ,some surfers are surely going to miss the boat as it were .
not really joking Derbyroy.

I wonder if these are the same trains that used to run under Virgin and use hired in HSTs from GN....NEEC and MML sets

It's likely to be a HST as it was in CrossCountry's original proposal to use HSTs for summer Newquay services and Voyagers would need reorganising to have 9 carriages.
