Good luck if you can get the video to play, I think the internet connection is too poor in my region. Aussiesteve do you know of this one? |
No doubt the harvester operator had a headset or ear bud's with the volume turned up. the train driver sat on the horn for some time.

I have just taken a squiz at the video clip.
The vision played ok, but I was not able to get the audio. No, I had not heard about this incident. Sugar cane trams only have loco brakes, no train brakes. So, stopping them is difficult when dragging a loaded train of cane bins. Even on fairly level track. The Isis Central mill, for example, has some steep trackage and they utilize a radio controlled brake van attached to the rear of the train to assist with stopping. Watching the motorists along Howard Street in Nambour do battle with the Moreton Mill cane trams was most amusing. Trains were banked up the hill along Howard Street and across the old highway intersection. So, motorists were really dicing with fate. The machine operator would have copped a surprise in this incident. Steve. |
