kings cross 1950,s need some info

Hello

I’ve joined this forum in my quest to locate the name of a book that has a picture of my late father in and I wonder if any of you guys knows the title.

My dad used to work at Kings Cross and worked his way up through the ranks from a carriage cleaner to the foot plate to driver.
I remember him showing me the book when I was a young lad and I can also remember the picture, it was of the whole crew standing in front of a shed at Kings Cross, all the crew were named, my dads name is Derek Manfredi and the picture said Fireman D.Manfredi, the author was O S Nock who seems to be the most prolific writer I have ever come across.

The year would have been around 1958 to 1960 but I’m not totally sure.

If anyone of you guys know the name of the book for sure it would really be appreciated as me and my sister have been looking for this book for years with no luck.

I know it’s a long shot but I though I’d ask.

Kind Regards

The Boy

Hi and thanks for the warm welcome to your forum.

I did notice that locojoe worked as Kings Cross, I’ll have to drop him a line, it would be marvellous to get hold of the title so I could buy a copy.

My dad came across the book by a stroke of luck so I’m hoping I get the same kind of luck, he was looking around a jumble sale (we call them boot fairs now) and saw the book, started thumbing through it and found the picture, I would have loved to have seen his face when he found it.

Anyway I digress

Once again Thanks for the welcome

Hi Boy welcome to the forum. I worked at Kings Cross depot or Topshed as it was then known from 1958 until 1962. I'm sorry I can't help with your book search. Unfortunatley I can't remember a driver called Derek Manfredi but after nearly 50 years memories seem to fade a bit.

Hello Boy and welcome to the forum. As well as looking for info about the book I also hope that you will find other things to interest you here.

Welcome to the Forum, I have looked through all my books by O.S.Nock and unfortunately I have not found anything about your dad, it is probably the one book I haven`t got that he is in. Good luck with your Quest.

Chris.

Hi Boy I'm sorry to say I don't recall a shunter called George Brand at Kings Cross.

Good luck with your search.
