Airport - City by rail

In the "Crazy Ticketing" thread, RomeExpress showed how it is possible to get from the airport to the city centre by rail, from Rome's Ciampino airport, when rail might not be the most obvious option (but definitely preferable :) )

So, what other airports would this apply to? Where it may look at first glance that taxi or "Airport Express" bus / coach is your only option?

Ok, Rome Has two Airports: Fiumicino (Leonardo da Vinci) and Ciampino (G.B. Pastine - He was a dirigible pilot)

You have different ways to arrive to Fiumicino Airport:
1. By taxi (Very very very expensive!) relaxing and no effort!
2. By train (LeonardoExpress) It's 11 euros and it takes 31 minutes from Roma Termini to Airport, no stops.
3. By Train from Tiburtina Station (or other station on the track of the same railway line - It should be the FM1 line). It takes 45 minutes (from tiburtina station) but it's cheaper, 5 Euros!!!
4. By Te**avision Bus from Roma Termini Station, It's 7 Euros.

You have different ways to arrive to Ciampino Airport.
1. By train from Roma Termini Station. Pay attention that Ciampino Station is far from Ciampino Airport and You have to take a taxi (expensive) or a bus (I can't remember how much is for it!).
2. By Te**avision Bus from Roma Termini Station (Via Marsala) it's 8 Euros.
3. By BusShu**le Bus from Roma Termini Station (Via Marsala) it's 6 Euros.
The first choice (by train) is the cheaper, but with effort!!
The best way seems to be the third choice.

Before leaving for Rome, please take care to check fares and destination. They can be modified at any time.;)

Just returned from Prague, Czech Republic. No trains from the airport, but we took bus 100 to the nearest Metro station, then metro into the city, close to our hotel.

From almost anywhere in the city you can get a tram or metro to almost anywhere else! We bought a 7 day ticket which covered all city buses, trams and metro for 280 Kr (about £7) for unlimited travel. Great value for a superb transit system. Clean, fast, regular, easy to use. :)

Sounds very impressive, it's a shame that we cn't offer the same value over here. It costs £13 pounds for a First Manchester weekly bus ticket, and that only covers services run by First, and not any of the other bus companies or the Metrolink system, and ofcourse it's only for use in Greater Manchester (despite the fact that I still say Bury is Lancashire, not Greater Manchester, but that's a rant for another day...).
