Newbie question on behalf of a budding trainspotter

Hello

I've a nephew who's started trainspoting.

I've a question about the line which has a crossing just to the south of Linton - do the trains travel north or south? Here's a map from Google, just scroll down a little to see the crossing : https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/...9e3d8d271f3e3c

Thanks for anyone who can help....

Just looked on Google Earth / G Maps street do trains actually still run on the track - looks like it is not in use

I cant actually see any line.

Google Earth does not show a currently used line,

However, Wikipedia suggests it (with Linton Station) was the Stour Valley Railway which ran from Shelford to Marks Tey which closed in 1967, leaving only the section from Sudbury to Marks Tey still in use.

This may be of interest: http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/l/linton/

Wrong Linton Wyvern.;)

The Linton in question is in Northumbria, the one you mention is down south between Haverhill and Cambridge, my area.:)

I thought about that but the link provide4d took me to Cambridgeshire

How strange, the link took me to Northumbria.

Anyway, the old railway at Linton near me was gone in the Beeching era.:(

My nearest station is Stoke (or Stoke by Clare) and it was on the Marks Tey - Cambridge line via Sudbury.
