Train suspended on washed-out track for 12 minutes

The first carriage of a train with 150 passengers onboard was suspended over a large hole for 12 minutes, the Rail Accident Investigation Board has said.

The board said the driver probably prevented a derailment when he took the initiative and reversed the train.

It is amazing that an engine and one coach got over that gap twice without derailing. I couldn't imagine that happening with the old jointed track, it could have been a bad accident. I bet the engine driver needed a change of undies after taking the decision to reverse back over the gap.

It seams odd that this was not reported until seven weeks after the incident? It was quite a miracle no one was injured and that is a blessing. So what happened during those seven weeks? Was the line closed and repaired I wonder? Must have been I guess.
Strange story from Ireland.
Cheers
Phil
