Hi Train boy, and welcome to the forum. The subject of loco headcodes is a vast one, and it would help if you could be more specific about your interest. Are you talking present-day loco workings, or are you interested in the codes used historically?

Hi boilersuit, i would like headcodes for locos this present day e.g (1Z99) where the train is going to and from please can you send me a link for the website for both of them? the only website i can find is http://headcodes.info/ which is for passenger trains only e.g a dmu headcode (1F94).

I thought I knew of a good website for headcodes, but I can't find it now. A good place to start however would be the Wikipedia entry – look under Train reporting number.

You can get headcodes for passenger trains free from any of the live train tracking sites

http://www.opentraintimes.com/
http://headcodes.info/

but if you want Freight train codes you will have to pay by going to Freightmaster
http://www.freightmaster.net/

with the first two sites yo ucan actually follow a train across it's route live on your phone
