Very sad but there is no way of stopping it. Whatever speed the train is doing, a bull elephant will not give way to it. Five deaths per year doesn't appear to be untoward given the circumstances. There are more deaths than this (for people) on UK railways. Typical BBC treehuggers story.

Poor elephants. :( I wonder what the figures in Africa are? Probably all incidents go unreported although I have a scientist friend at the WWF who studies elephants, maybe he can give me an idea.
