Knowing when a Class 37 is near?

Hi all,

I've always liked the Class 37 diesels best and would like to try and see a few out and about - as i understand Network Rail and others still use them.
Unfortunately i always find out they were on a track nearby after the event - never before!

Is there a way of finding out when or where these engines will be operating throughout the week?

Mark.

There are email forums that can deliver emails to your phone and 37's are always reported in quite a few of them

There are Yahoo and Google groups but you do need more than one to get coverage.
One point IF you get all of them on instant email notification you can get 4-500 emails a day

BTW I use Mailwasher Free before downloading mail
this way I can cut out the spam AND when I don't need it I can delete the mails from the forums before download using filters

Two 37's came through Stafford today at about 15.45 they were on the flasks heading North, plenty of noise, accelerating through the platform at 40-50 mph, i don't know when the flasks will run again, sometimes the power units are 2x class 20's.

the flasks are a weekly trip and are not usually put up until after they have travelled but are a regular weekly trip
usual motive power consists of 37's and 20's usually a mix of 1 x37 + 1 x 20 but can be anything depending on how many flasks and if there is a support coach (Military run) BUT anything can show even 2x57 or 2x66
How about this one

the GEN websites usually can give you an idea when there's a flask train but it won't show on any of the WTT websites

I think I heard them! I live about half a mile from the WCML between Warrington and Wigan.

It was always easy to know there was a class 37 nearby because I used to live near the Edinburgh south suburban freight only line in the late 1990s and there were usually at least 3 or 4 class 37 workings late at night or in the early hours of the morning. I would often leave my window open in the still of the night and they would have a very distinctive, sometimes spooky engine noise as they climbed the long hill up to Morningside especially since it was near a wooded area and an old graveyard.
