Hello from Hull
Hi,
My name is Mick and I'm new 'round here. I've been into photographing ships for the past 25 yrs but I want to diversify a little and do something different for the days when there are no ships around or tide time don't match my leisure time. I've done a little bit of rail photography over the years but nothing too serious. What I would like to know what are do's and don'ts with rail photography. I shoot with a Pentax DSLR and can cover from 10mm to 500mm so i'm all set in that respect. What books would you recommend for information on Loco's and Rolling stock? For now I've drawn up a preliminary list of places to visit in my area and came up with these ...... Melton Ross / Barnetby King George V Bridge - Keadby Immingham Monk Fryston York Doncaster Copmanthorpe Selby Northallerton Scarborough I would be more interested in seeing Freight Services and HSTs over DMUs. Regards Mick |
Hi Mick and welcome to the forum. I love my photography for the most part steam locos. I travel quite a lot to the many good heritage railways we have in and around the midlands. If you want some inspiration I suggest you have a good browse on the gallery where you will find many subjects on most aspects of the railway that members have shared with us. However you go just have fun and enjoy.
All the very best Phil |

Welcome to the Forum Mick.
As Phil says have a trawl through the Gallery for inspiration then get out there and take lots of photos. Do post them on the Forum, it's a great place to share our experiences! Best wishes, John H-T. |
Hello Mick and welcome to the forum, enjoy and all the best.

Hello Mick and welcome to the Railway Forum. :)

Thanks for the kind messages fellas.
I managed to get out today to Barnetby le Wold in North Lincolnshire and had a couple of hours on the station there. It was surprisingly busy with a few DMUs running to Cleethorpes and Scunthorpe. What interested me most were the Class 60 and 66 Loco's that were running too and from Immingham docks. I've posted some up on the Gallery. |
Barnetby is a good place for freight. I manage to get there twice a year for a couple of hours.:)

Welcome to the forum, dear Mick.

Network Rail and the TOCs are happy to have non-professional photogrphers but because sime few have been silly a***ses therewas a time when station staff got rather anrti.
