What Station
1 Attachment(s)
Does anyone know which closed station this is.
Attachment 157 I don't so it's not a quiz I would just like to know the location. Alan Locojoe. |
Alan,
I don't know if it helps but "Stratton Gentry" were coal merchants in the Brentford area. |
I was a few miles out. Here it is Hammersmith and Chiswick.

What a fantastic site. Hours of fun reading about old stations without ever having to leave the armchair. I did try looking up Stratton on Google and Multimap, but didnt get very far.

Old Stations
I too found that site and spent a long while going through the pages,
I think I got to page 40 or so before giving up looking but also found it good entertainment reading and looking at pictures from the past. Perhaps I should return and bookmark the site for future time passing. John (G) |
Like Shed Cat I initially tried searching Google for "Stratton Gentry". I then tried Ask.com and it came up with a website about Brentford's railways that contained a mention of Stratton Gentry and said that they were coal merchants.
As the picture in Alan Locojoes post was of a terminus station and as the description of the only terminus station in Brentford (old GWR Dock branch) didn't match it, I had to go further afield. I used "Complete British Railways maps and gazetteer 1830-1981" and looked for all the former terminus stations in the areas around Brentford. It was then simply a case of looking on the excellent Disused Stations site to see if any of these particular stations had been listed and luckily Hammersmith and Chiswick was.:) |
I caused you a lot of searching there John sorry about that.

I think the searching is part of the fun, not a chore.
Then John gets a chance to tell us all how he did it. Sherlock Holmes had better watch out ! |

I agree entirely with Shed Cat. Searching is part of the fun, especially when you find what you're looking for:D |
