Hello
 
I'm a new member but have had a deep interest in railways all my life.
I'm currently 66 years young and retired, was born and raised in Lancaster in England and came to Canada in 1977. My wife and live in the City of Oshawa about 1 hour east of Toronto.
Growing up in the 50's and 60's I have extremely vivid memories of the steam age under British Rail and of the old workhorses being driven out by those, what we thought at the time, were horrible diesels and of course we had the distinction of having an early experimental electrified local line that ran between Lancaster, Morecambe and Heysham. I have often wished that I had taken more notice of the local workings when Lancaster Green Ayre Station and Shed were still in operation.
The CN, CP, Via Rail and GO Trains of today do not hold the same fascination for me that the regions did back in the old days in Blighty.
Should anyone wish to chat about things from back then I will be pleased to communicate quite freely.

Welcome to the forum, Dave, don't be too hard of the trains of today. I was a spotter at the end of steam too...... but enjoy the railway news we get here in North America - it is still a fascinating business!

Hi Dave and a warm welcome from me too. Like you I was a youngster (born 1950) who enjoyed all things steam! My dad worked on the railways and I travelled to school in Lincoln from Market Rasen so I had the best of it. I left off for a long time when I joined the Army in 66, and renewed my interest in steam in 2007. Since then I have not looked back, as we have some awesome railway heritage sites in the UK.
Anyway hope you enjoy the company on this forum.
