One of the giants of the preservation movement. Thank you so much Alan for everything you have done.

Condolences to the family.

We have lost one of preservation's great characters.

Hello Dickm and welcome to the Railway Forum. Deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Alan Pegler, a giant in railway preservation.

Sad to hear of the passing of Alan Pegler. The preservation world may have been very different if it wasn't for him, especially the Ffestiniog Railway and Flying Scotsman of course.

Hello and welcome to the Forum. Thanks for posting this bit of news. Very sad, and sad also that the news hasn't appeared (not that I've seen, anyway) in the general media. At one time there was tremendous interest in steam engines but I suppose the memories are fading away as time passes. Those of us who can remember (only just, in my case) steam engines in daily service are in quite a minority of those alive today.

Hi and welcome from me too.
What a very sad loss, Alan Pegler was a giant amongst the railway heritage personnel and will be best rememberd for his involvement with FS. How sad he will not be around to see it back on the rails (hopefully this year!)
Deepest sympathies to his family and friends.
Phil

Very sad indeed. I was thinking about him just a short while ago, wondering what he was up to these days railwaywise. Hopefully heritage railways can honour his legacy and do ever more to preserve our history, rebuild communities and continue as a beacon of what the British spirit is all about.
