Pendon Museum: Madder Valley Railway

Yesterday I at last made it to Pendon Museum in Oxfordshire. Even better the Madder Valley Layout was being opperated. MVR was built by John Ahern starting in the 1930's and developed until his death in 1962. It is often seen as the first proper model railway. John built evrything on it himself including some of the motors in the locos! No ready to run in the early 30's! He started out with three rail, converted to stud contact and then 2 rail.

It is now very fragile and is only opperated about five times a year. The dates for the rest of the year are: 6 April; 17 June; 23 September & 10 November. Well worth a visit.

Attached a few photo of the layout.

Best wishes,

John H-T.
