Hello Forum, Just joined the forum this evening. I am impressed by the wide and varied interests the members show on the posts.
My main interest in the 12" to the foot scale is BR !948-68 mainly Eastern (Ex GER), hence my 30A signature. Started spotting in 1944, but in those dark days we could harly read numbers due to the dirt.(Much like the mid 60's) Saw the very first L1 with Edward Thompson on the footplate., and once had a footplate ride on a D16 when I was 11. Oh what memories!! Don |
Hello Don and welcome to the forum, look forward to some of your stories, enjoy and all the best.

Hello Don and welcome to the Railway Forum. BR 1948-68 is the time I want to model in.

Welcome to the forum! :)

Hi Don and a warm welcome from me too. hope you enjoy our company. I agree with spotting the numbers on the 50's and 60's locos due to the dirt and grime. Missed many a number espcially when on a train to Kings X and passing 34A was a nighmare trying to catch all of them. It would be easy now with digital cameras as all you need is to photo them and view at leisure! Still that was all in the fun of our hobby.
Best wishes Phil |
Poor old 30A it is now a shopping centre and an olympic park
shame I prefered it at a depot went to the open day in about 1980 used to like to see all the stock parked oppersite stratford station |
Welcome to the Forum, you'll enjoy it here. I only ever went round 30A once – it was right at the end of the steam era. I remember seeing the last B12, 61572 (which had been set aside for preservation) and the entire class of Baby Deltics lined up awaiting their fate. Nothing else has stuck in my memory ... well I was very young ... just the vastness of the place.

Spooky.:D I also saw 61572 at Devons Road (Bow) but can't remember if that was before, or after seeing it at Stratford. |
Well you know what they say about great minds, Phil. ;) ;)

Evening (GB)Syd, Thanks for the warm welcome to the forum.
I too model 1956-65 period, based loosely (very) on M&GN. These days I am quite happy to use stock straight from the box which limits my choice. In a different time warp, I used to kit build most of my locos & was able to run stock apprpriate to my region ie. BR Eastern Great Eastern Section. I am lucky that I can remember smokey Liverpool St, Stratford MPD, N7's on the jazz, etc. Well, I 'm off for my cocoa distilled in Scotland. Regards, Don |
