Hello from Derbyshire

Hello!

A bit about me - mainly interested in steam, though some of the diesels are ok.

I live very close to the ex-Midland main line between Chinley and New Mills South Junction, so have a decent variety of rail traffic passing by, but its such a shame there isn't a stream of 8Fs stuggling up the bank like there used to be!

I also miss the double-headed 37s that more recently were in charge of the ICI hoppers that used to literally shake my house when they passed.

I am now lucky in having a 2½ yr old grandson who enjoys travelling by train, and is mad on Thomas the Tank Engine, so gives me a great excuse to visit Churnet Valley, East Lancs and Rudyard Lake railways. It also gives me the excuse to play with his battery-operated Trackmaster Thomas trains :)

Hello Jack and welcome to the Railway Forum. I too like steam and a few of the diesels. I also live close to an ex-midland track but the track was removed a long time ago, before I move to my house 38 years ago. I do not have any grandchildren but that never stopped me from visiting the railways.

Jack

Welcome to the Forum. I grew up in Chesterfield, although I was a bit young to remember the Matlock - Buxton line before they closed it. I remember my Dad hiring a car one day (we didn't have a car in those days) and we went to Monsal Head to see a steam train burst out of the tunnel. Somewhere we used to have a photo of it, I'm sure, because I always remember Dad carrying his camera with him. In the early 1970s I took a lot of photos of (obviously) diesels, mainly Peak class, on the MML. Look forward to reading any of your recollections etc of Derbyshire or elsewhere.

Hi Jack

Welcome to Chesterfield well the South side tend to get wherever I can - Barrow Hill today a little cold and wet and empty

Get rid of the plastic and get a proper model train - you can get a Thomas if You HAVE to but bet I give a year before he's asking for real trains on the layout my grandkids did
