hello from portsmouth arms
hello everyone, i live at "portsmouth arms" which is a tiny hamlet in devon.
although there are only four dwellings in the village we have our very own railway station!!!!! the station is on "the tarka line" which runs from exeter to barnstaple through the beautiful taw valley. its a lovely train journey and only costs £8.50 return. or you can do the "rail ale trail" stopping at pubs along the way. the gentleman who lives in the station cottage has two pullman carriages which he is painstakingly restoring. the line was built in 1850, the landowner at the time being the earl of portsmouth. ( hence the name portsmouth arms) the rest of the village consists of a farm, a sawmill and "the portsmouth arms hotel" public house. its lovely to sit in the pub garden on a summers evening watching the sunset and the trains rolling by, enjoying a meal and few beers and staying the night in the bed & breakfast. |

Hi Portsmouth arms and welcome to the forum. Your description of the place sounds idyllic and made me want to be there enjoying a nice pint too! Roll on summer.
Best wishes Phil |

I'm jealous. :) |
Looking at the annual passenger figures it's surprising the station is still open, although it is a request stop.:)
