Arriva wins traffic in Stockholm

Today it was announced that Arriva will take over the traffic on the local railway Saltsjöbanan and the light rail Tvärbanan and Nockebybanan from Veolia in august 2012 and on Roslagsbanan from january 2013.
They also won three bus depots.

The strange thing is how the contract is written. From 20:00 the entrepreneur can choose to drive bus instead of train and they will get paid per passenger (passenger = person that have payed a ticket) so there probably will be no "please, I have no ticket, can't you let me travel anyway?".

Seems like Ariva are out to conquer the world! They took over in Malta early this year too. Not so sure its a good thing?

Yes. It seems so, they already have the Pågatåg (Commutertrains in Skåne Län) and the buses in Malmö and other places as well as buses in northern stockholm and some other train services in sweden.
Nor sure it is a good thing either.

They certainly were not taking much notice of the timetable when we were in Malta a few weeks ago. It was our first visit but people who were regular visitors told us about the vintage buses - which had more or less disappeared when we got there.
