Layout help

I am fairly new to the modelling side of things so, sorry if the answer to this question is obvious! I wish to have an incline on a main line and wondered what would be the maximum slope (OO gauge). I thought probably no less than 1 in 40 (Lickey is 1 in 37). Any ideas?

try this link. http://www.hornby.com/building-a-model-railway/
i have been told that they go into detail about inclines.
dont have it to steep or the loco will have wheel slip.

Woodland Sceanics produce a selection of gradient packs. The stepest is 4% / 1 in 25. This is not as steep as Hornby say is possible but I certainly wouldn't try any steeper. Hornby were probably relying on traction Tyres which are not fitted to many new locos.
