Hello & Nickname for 76000-114 4MT
Hello All, I am interested in Railways because my father spent his whole working life with British Rail and I started mine with British Rail.
I am trying to find out what the nickname is/was for BR Standard 4MT 2-6-0 Nos. 76000-76114. I am learning more about rail by trying to do crosswords about it and this is one question I simply cannot find an answer to. I know it is C_I_E_E Fours but I could only guess that it might be Chinese Fours. Can anyone enlighten me please. |
Hello Petra and welcome to the Railway Forum. I have never heared of Chinese Fours. Sorry I can't help with your crossword.

I found this little snippet referring to Ivatt 2-6-2T's
"The Kirkdale shunt involved arranging coaches for booked trains and specials, locomotives 41205, 41268 & 41269 were used on this job. A trip to Liverpool Exchange on an afternoon job was to bring Glasgow empties back to Kirkdale. The other job the same three locos were used on was station pilot, on the early turn on this job you would relieve a train from Skipton, the locomotive was called by some men a The Kirkdale shunt involved arranging coaches for booked trains and specials, locomotives 41205, 41268 & 41269 were used on this job. Welcome to the Forum Petra. I look forward with interest to the answer!
Best wishes, John H-T. |
I haven't heard of the Chinese Four but the nickname Flying Pig seems to ring a bell although that could be just that my brother was a Flying Pig when in the RAF (RAF Police) before they adopted the nickname "Snowdrop"
|
Flying pig is the usual name used for the Ivatt class 4 2-6-0's, 43106 is the sole surviving example.
