forum newbie

Hi, Im Damian and have joined this site for the interest in railways and for general information for the possible future of my career in the industry. I have worked on the railway for 5 years now, 4 of them with BTP so not totally directly, but I went trackside a few times for the not so pleasant reasons and now for a TOC as a dispatcher. I passed my drivers assesment a year ago externally with the TOC im with now and unfortuneltly failed the final interview not so long ago. I have another interview lined up with DB Schenker and after abit of research found out they are in a great position as a company in the business. But... my research of what Routes they have im struggling and what there main depots are and even to the point who there MD is. IF anyone has any information in this it would be greatfull in my pursuit to become a driver. Places I have tried is wiki and there actual website.

Many thanks

Damian

Hello Damian and welcome to the Railway Forum. I can't help with your questions as I never worked on the British railway system, but as G6 UXU said, an answer will come soon.

Hi Damian, Join this forum: www.railchat.co.uk
Mainly staff or ex-staff from the railway industry. I'm sure if you post in the train drivers forum you will get some answers.
Cheers, Mike (ex-Saltley fireman)

Hi Damian & welcome to the forum.

DBS seems to be coming back into popularity with drivers. When I considered moving across to them a while back they were called EWS (English Welsh & Scottish) and their drivers were leaving in droves because of awful T&Cs and bullish management .

However in the last few years they appear to have turned a corner. Several of my friends have gone there recently as qualified drivers and are very happy.

In any case I think the best advice I hear regularly is that since competition for Trainee Driver's jobs is so intense, you really need to go with any TOC/FOC that will have you. Work hard (and everybody has to) and you will get your key. Then do a couple of years service to get good experience - and by then you'll probably know what sort of trains you REALLY want to drive.

As Mike 2E0BLL says, railchat.co.uk is the place to talk to railstaff.

But don't give up on us either - we're nice people too. ;)

Best wishes, BW

..actually, further to what I wrote above there's eight Trainee Driver Jobs appeared at Kings Cross for FCC (or what will become the Thameslink, Southern & Great Northern Franchise). Since you're in London this is a viable possibility.

Link here...FCC Kings Cross Trainee Driver Jobs

Worth a go if you're still looking around for a place to take you. Currently a good company to work for - with good conditions.
