No injured in spectacular derailment in Karlstad, Sweden
 

At around 15:00 today a train reversed through the buffer stop and stopped just before hitting a building.
There were no passengers on the train, and the train crew suffered only minor injuries.
Since this happened less than an hour ago the cause of the accident is not yet known.

One thing people mentioned is that the track is to short for the train. But, that does not mean that you should reverse through the buffer stop...

Easy to say...but most of us have done something stupid at sometime. It's only up to Lady Luck whether it turns out well or bad.

As an aside, a colleague of mine tells a hillarious story about when he was a secondman in BR days. His driver was putting a loco away one night and set back blindly into the curved engine road. My colleague asked him if it would help if he got down on the ballast and guided him back. The driver said it wasn't nescessary as nobody was daft enough to stable their loco 'fowl' of the line.

Seconds later there a judder and the driver stopped the movement. When they got down and had a look, a class 37 with a large dent in it was leaning over at a crazy angle against another loco on the adjacent road.

The driver got a telling off but kept his job, because as the Rulebook says you shouldn't leave your train foul of another line. And if you must, then you should inform the person in charge (eg, Yard Foreman) so that he can warn others.
