Slow Train to Riccarton TV Prog.
 

I am trying to locate a copy of a video/dvd called 'Slow Train to Riccarton'.

BBC TV Newcastle broadcast it about 10 years ago.

I understand that a copy was in a job lot sold at an auction in April (http://www.invaluable.com/auction-lo...1-c-3002530063) and is also referred to on http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/r...h/index0.shtml

Can anyone help me find a copy, please?

I don't admit to understanding what a "torrent" is, but it seems to suggest you can download the programme.

There were also other sites on my Google results.:D

I found several sites, but all Torrent. Afraid I don't understand Torrent, either. Is it legal and is it safe?

One site claimed to have it in 4 parts totalling about 80Mb. Can a half hour(?) prog be that small? Could I put MP4 onto a dvd a normal player would recognise?

Questions, questions, questions! Too much for a 70 year old who travelled in the 1950s on the Hexham to Riccarton line, as far as Tarset, anyway!!

Bit torrents also called "peer to peer" are where lots of pcs that have the data on them share in resending it to others requiring a copy, thus sharing the load. It means opening your PC to access by other people's computers.

BBC iPlayer works like this and is totally safe, but others may be more unsavoury. I tried it once with another vendor and got nowhere. The advertised film was nowhere to be found and lots of junk came down.

I'm not sure of the transmission date, but it was 'vintage' film when broadast. It may have been an aniversary, 50years after closure, perhaps?

I'd seen the BFI site, which suggest 1986 as transmission date. It may have been as long ago as that. Time flies! Otherwise it is not heplful. I've also tried BBC North East, so far without success!

I live in hope of someone saying 'Oh! I've got a copy. I'll put it in the post for you!' but I'm not holding my breath!

I've got a copy and had I read this sooner would have obliged!

Another good old TV programme to look out for is Nairn Across Britain. It's the episode starting in Leeds and finishing in Edinburgh. It was filmed in 1972 IIRC, and features Longtown, Riccarton Jct & Hawick in great depth. Got a copy of this somewhere as well, may have to try and find it again!
