Nice film but lots of men in boiler suits on or about the line without proper PPE. eg Hi viz clothing. Round the water column.

Good bit of filming, thanks for posting it.

Great video prm57 We had a great time and hope our visitors did to.

HM181 your comment although probably well meaning isnt quite correct, HI VIZ is not ALWAYS a requirement and often we get praised by visitors and photographers for only wearing hi-viz were the rules require it. We have a robust, agreed and approved as well as often reviewed SMS and the relevant Railway Inspector/HMRI/ORR rules for OUR operation which are ALWAYS complied with or else we are removed immediately from trackside duty by the relevant Manager. I am one of the people you mention as booked shunter driver along with another booked shunter driver and the Duty Controller and we have just finished one shunt behind us on the bay siding and waiting to cross (on the approved crossing point) to do another across the other side of the yard as soon as the light loco movement towards the tower had come to a hault. You would be most welcome to visit us to see our operation for yourself. I don't want to start any arguments and your posts are very appropiate and well informed but just because you have vast knowledge about BR / Network Rail operations does not mean the same always applies to other lines. I was a little dissapointed as it implies we were not following correct procedure but rest assured we were working extremely hard for FREE to run a safe and enjoyable railway so you and others can enjoy things like prm57 excellent video. sorry for the long post and hoping we can continue to enjoy each others posts.

I notice that Nechells (Nee Meaford) didn't appear in the video, wasn't it ready in time?
Bryan, I quite agree with your sentiments regarding SMS and rule books, the requirement for regulation was recently (in the last couple of years) changed so that the onus was on the individual railway to produce it's own in the form of a Safety Management System (including the rule book), which is approved with the ORR, within which effectively anything could be written. If the railway has an agreed SMS which allows for Hi Visibility Orange clothing to not be worn in certain circumstances then there is nothing wrong with not wearing it. I can think of one railway where there is almost no HiVi gear worn and all fully approved.

Calm down Bryan!! HM181 is only concerned for our safety and obviously has a bee in his bonnet about heritage railway staff not complying to 125 line track safety. No doubt he will feel better to know that the cafe staff were wearing aprons and serving gloves. Lets face it, running at 15mph max a high viz vest is not going to help much anyway- the real hazard is being out of sight close by the loco.

Thanks Nigel, you have hit the nail on the head.

No4. (aka No2.) underwent a boiler inspection after receiving firebox repairs but a futher problem was discovered and rather than try and repair in time with possiblity of still failing to get it ready, we decided to withdraw it to and advertise this as such to give those intending to attend just to travel with No4. the chance to change thier plans as we advertised it alot as appearing originally. Hopefully the repairs will take place shortly. The previous owner attended the gala and couldnt resist giving it a quick polish. I will post any updates when available. We ran the NBL 0-4-0dh to free up Asbestos to take over No4. turns. The gala was very successful for us with visitor numbers up and the sun came out too.

Best wishes to all of you at Foxfield and hope to visit you again soon.

Regards
