Mud Train

My office in Stevenage overlooks the East Coast Main Line. Every morning at around 11.00 AM a train of battered open trucks (wagons?), some containing mud (we've christened it the mud train) passes on it's way north. It returns, empty, at around 1.30 PM.
It's pulled by a class 66 loco.
I'd love to know where it goes from to, where the mud comes from (Crossrail?), and where they take it.

Is it a DBS 66 ?
I often pass a train propelling out of the branch line into Foxton at 17:35, which delivers Crossrail spoil to provide infill for Barrington quarry there

Best wishes, BW

Hi Fastpedaler. Welcome to the forum.
Realtime trains shows a northbound Wembley to Barrington Unloading Pad spoil train passing Stevenage at 11:02. It also shows a southbound working from Barrington to Wembley at 13:25.
Could these be the trains that you see?
If so then the afternoon working is not actually the empties of the one you see in the morning as it leaves Barrington at 11:23.
HTH
Incidentally Realtime trains says this mornings working is about 15 mins early. :)

That's interesting, first time I've heard of the Barrington light railway.

This may provide a bit more info.

If things go to plan, I'm hoping to visit Foxton & Barrington tomorrow morning.

According to Realtime Trains I should see some "mud trains".;)

Mission aborted.

Got a message to say my new computer was due to be delivered today, so had to stay in.

It's not here yet.:(

Did it turn up? Or did you have a frustrating wasted day?

Late afternoon.:(

I had a trip out this morning to Foxton and Barrington to see the "mud trains".

Quite interesting.

The incoming train backs into the exchange sidings, then the 66 runs round to take the concist up to the unloading area at the old cement works.

The empty train is aso in the exchange sidings and backs out onto the main line, and then proceeds on the "wrong" line back towards London. I presume it crosses over fairly soon.;)

The old cement works has security on the gate so I could not get to see where the spoil is unloaded.
