As the UN climate change conference in Copenhagen gets under way, BBC Scotland's environment correspondent, David Miller, reports the switch from runway to high-speed railway.

David Miller can rant all he wishes about high speed lines in other European countries but he can't change the fact that we live on a very very crowded island with no continuous belt of spare land to build a new railway. Neither Spain or France have major cities roughly 50 miles apart, all of which want to be served by the high speed trains.
This is of course forgetting that we already have the biggest budget deficit in memory. Our grandchildren will still be trying to pay it off. The cost of this new railway will be at least £100billion, probably double that before it is finished - where is this money coming from?
